Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic is the oldest city in the New World. Founded in 1498 by Christopher Columbus's brother Bartholomew, the city contains numerous historical treasures like the fist cathedral in the Western Hemisphere, where the remains of Columbus himself are said to be buried. Located in the Caribbean along the South coast of the island of Hispaniola, Santo Domingo offers cultural and culinary attractions, as well as plenty of nightlife options.
