Santa Maria Capua Vetere

Capua Vetere or Capua Antica, is the place to go if you are a history buff, as this is the place where all the Roman ruins are. The Anfiteatro Campano is one of the most interesting sights, as one can climb down the stairs and explore the underground dwellings were the lions and the gladiators prepared for battle. On sight you will also find the Museo dei Gladiatori and a small café and restaurant if you are hungry. The Mitreo, not far, is absolutely stunning and is the only one of two temples in Italy dedicated to God Mitria of Persia, a forbidden deity during Roman times: taking photos is forbidden, but the memory of its beauty will last a lifetime.
