Reggia di Caserta

Famous around the world for its beauty, the Reggia di Caserta and its gardens are a must see while in the area, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Built by the Bourbon King of Naples in the 18th century, the Reggia is opulent and fantastic, as is the park that surrounds it: the gardens, with their water fountains and huge marble pools, are worth a multi-hour visit, and they are so large there is a little shuttle bus traveling back and forth from the palace to the furthest end of the park, as well as small horse carriages for those who want to enjoy a guided tour.  The perfectly preserved Acquedotto Carolino, designed by Vanvitelli, is also worth a visit, as it is very impressive.
