Busy and lively, the port town of Heraklion is definitely worth a visit while in Crete, as it has a lot to offer to tourists, no matter what they are looking for. Crete’s capital city is large and packed with shops and restaurants, and is home to the incredible Archeological Museum, a pretty Venetian style Town Hall and the palace of Knossos, while its surroundings are incredibly green and lush In recent times, the center has been turned into a pedestrian-only zone, making it a great place for an evening stroll. Dedicated to the patron saint of Heraklion, the stunning church of Agios Minas is a wonder of architecture, with cream colored walls and red rounded domes and roofs.

Not far from the Heraklion city center, Ammouduara Beach is long and sandy, with chairs and umbrellas to rent and fairly shallow waters.
