A stunning island deeply rooted in tradition, Kimolos

“My Kimolos, my heaven” – this is how locals refer to their island. Sitting between the bigger and better known islands of Milos and Sifnos, Kimolos is located in the southwest of the Cycladic archipelago. The Venetians called Kimolos “Argentiera” (silver), probably due to its silvery rocks in the south. The island was famous since antiquity for its “kimolia gi”, a kind of clay with medicinal and detergent qualities that Kimolos exported well before the 3rd century B.C. Famous for its beautiful and sheltered beaches, Kimolos is not a popular tourist destination and is waiting to be explored by those who like to vacation off the beaten track. Many tourists come from Milos only for a day visit since the island is small, but in order to explore its beaches and enjoy the traditional streets of Horio, the main village, you need at least 2-3 days. One of the greenest islands of the Cyclades, Kimolos boasts a great number of paths for those who enjoy hiking and is still quite rural: its people, rooted in tradition, make visitors feel more like guests than tourists, making it the perfect island for those who are seeking a home away from home.

Kimolos for...
  • Couple
  • Families
  • Solo Traveler
  • Group

The ideal island for couples who are seeking a tranquil and romantic destination off the beaten track, Kimolos is very remote and peaceful, and ideal for a romantic vacation.

Laid-back and quiet, Kimolos can be enjoyed by families who are not looking for too many amenities or by families who are staying in nearby Milos and want to escape the crowds for a day trip.

Kimolos can feel a bit “empty” to those traveling solo, as it doesn’t attract the crowds as other islands do. On the other hand, locals are known for being very friendly, so if you plan on traveling alone you can count on exchanging some pleasant chit-chat with them.

The small island of Kimolos doesn’t offer much in the nightlife department, so it is best suited for groups who are not looking for long nights out and parties, those who seek a place to relax at the beach and enjoy crystal-clear waters.
